did I wait too long?
Currently looking like ~$1300 for round trip to Istanbul from Portland for mid August to mid September. Ow. But not unexpected.
Maybe I’ll try calling a travel agent and see how low they can get?

In addition to getting a travel agent, perhaps you should go in September, if possible. A quick Google search found this page useful.
The mean temp in the Istanbul area is 20C, which is quite nice. Better to go when it is temperate rather than scorching. IMHO.
