Hey

October 11, 2014

Damn, haven’t posted a solo song in forever. This one is kinda cheesy, but turned out ok. Maybe the next one will have a little more going on, maybe some real lyrics even.

Killing an Arab

September 7, 2009

Wanted to finish a recording, so I covered a short, easy-ish Cure song.

Manic Depression

October 10, 2006

I’ve been working on being able to play and sing at the same time.
To this end, I did Hendrix’s Manic Depression at last Monday’s open
mic at the Green Room. I hadn’t recorded anything in a while, so I
recorded a version this afternoon. The quality’s not great, but I’m
proud of myself so here it is. šŸ™‚

Death from Above

December 27, 2005

I think I’m proudest of this song, although I think I am channeling off Nine Inch Nails
and Rammstein. Hell yea I play guitar too…it’s kinda like a bass for kids!

I have no idea where the lyrics or that voice came from!

Updated version

I spent some time and significantly tightened up this song. I raised the level
of the vocals and tried to better mesh them with the rest of the song (although
limitations in their initial quality are unfixable without rerecording) and got
it from 5:10 down to 3:30ish, so there’s a lot less repetition.

More Cowbell

December 27, 2005

I decided over Christmas to try and make an album in 24 hours, as exemplified by
this site. Unfortunately I didn’t quite make
it to the minimum music — I think I was still overly concerned with polishing what I came
up with instead of QUANTITY. And I took 28 hours, not 24. So, no submission, but I did complete
the following 4 songs (13 minutes of music!)

I had a lot of fun with this first track. My favorite part is when the cowbell and the woodblock
have a duet. šŸ™‚ Made using Nord Lead, some loops, and Live.

Eight Spirits

December 27, 2005

I surprised myself and recorded a bass track that sounded like a folk song or something!
Uh, OK, whatever the muse gives me I take. So here it is. I tried to come up with some folksy
lyrics but I failed, and…read the back of a DVD I had handy. How long will it take you
to figure out which one?

Listen to the end, and you will hear some added philosophic stuff too. Bass and vocals by
(ahem) me.

Jammin with Andy

December 27, 2005

Laid down some tasty slap bass and then jammed over it with
the soprano sax. One take! Pretty sure it shows…

R.I.Patrick

April 16, 2005

Patrick Wang passed away while mountain climbing recently. Patrick was a great,
talented person, who will be very missed. Before his accident, he sent a guitar riff
to Jason, who forwarded it to me. I decided to take it and turn it into a full song,
in his memory. If you like this song (or even if you don’t), please consider contacting
Mazamas and making a contribution to the Patrick
Wang Memorial Fund.

Jasonriff

November 21, 2004

Jason did some rough tracks using Sonar’s loops and guitar. After we
jammed a few weeks ago with Patrick, he burned them on CD for me. I took
one and laid some synth stuff over the top. This is my first track done
with Ableton Live, a truly amazing program. Also used: FM7 vsti.
